About Us

Discover U is a program of Oorah, a Jewish outreach organization based in Lakewood, NJ. Oorah was founded by Rabbi Chaim Mintz, Dean of the Yeshiva of Staten Island. It has been active for the past 30 years in assisting Jewish children, teens and adults in discovering their connection to their Jewish heritage. It currently works with over 1,000 families helping them to provide their children with a solid foundation in Jewish education and values.

Among Oorah’s primary activities are: enrollment and financial assistance for children interested in attending Jewish day schools; adult Jewish education; family mentoring and guidance; and GirlZone and BoyZone summer camps.

GirlZone takes place simultaneously with Discover U at Oorah’s new resort facility in Gilboa, NY. Discover U is a separate program for young adults, with its own accommodations and staff.
